About
Quintessential antique farmhouse updated with harbor and ocean views in sought after First Cliff. After discovering ‘Irish moss’ in coastal waters, Irish immigrants launched a booming mossing industry in Scituate, Massachusetts led by Daniel Ward. He built this home on the cliff and offered it for use as the first Catholic Mass. Starting in 1856, priests said Mass there four times a year. Since then the home has been lovingly improved with gorgeous grounds, a heated saltwater gunite pool with whirlpool hot tub and cabana. The wrap around porch is perfect for rocking chair relaxation. Inside is warm and welcoming with a large well appointed gourmet chef's kitchen, granite center island and pine floors. The formal dining room has beautiful built in china cabinets and a "Good Morning" secondary staircase leading to the primary suite that was salvaged, along with other artifacts in the home from the 1853 shipwreck of the Forest Queen. Inviting fireplaced living room with walls of glass and bookcases is the anchor for entertaining. A cozy den, bedroom and full bath complete the first floor. Upstairs offers three ensuite bedrooms, a fourth that is a perfect office/study and an unheated sunporch with natural beadboard and views!
